175th Foundation Day celebrated on November 25, 2022
 
The Institute celebrated its 175th Foundation Day on Friday, November 25, 2022. One of the major highlight of the event the antiquity of IIT Roorkee’s illustrious history by creating a picture gallery of large-size oil paintings of the five luminaries who graduated from the Institute during the pre-1900 era.
The Foundation Day celebration was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla as the Chief Guest and Shri. Vineet Pandey, Secretary, Department of Post, Government of India, as the Guest of Honour. The event began with the hoisting of the flag and an address by Prof. B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, Chairman Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee and Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, on the historical aspects of the foundation day, followed by the release of stamps and coins and highlighting the history.


New Commemorative coin was released on 175 Years of IIT Roorkee celebrations
 
The 7th commemorative coin of 2022 was released on 175 years of IIT Roorkee celebrations. The commemorative coin becomes the first with a 175-denomination minted by the India Government Mint in the history of Republic of India coinage. It will be available for public booking from Mint on December 7, 2022.


Start-Up Expo celebrated on 175th Foundation Day celebrations
 
On its 175th birthday, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, organised a first-of-its-kind Start-Up Expo. Fifty Start-Ups have participated and showcased their products and technology in domains including robotics, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and electric vehicles, among others. The Chairman of BOG at IIT Roorkee Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, Prof. KK Pant, Director and many others present on the occasion motivated young entrepreneurs to solve real-world problems using deep technologies. Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi and Prof. Prem Vrat, Ex-Directors of IIT Roorkee also attended the event along with other dignitaries.


Kavi Sammelan and Drone light show organized on 175th year’s celebrations
 
On the 175th Foundation Day Celebrations, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee organized Kavi Sammelan on November 25, 2022. The celebration concluded with a drone show depicting the journey of IIT Roorkee from the sky. This spectacular ariel event was visible in and around Roorkee city.


IIT Roorkee celebrated Alumni Reunions in Nov 2022
 
The Office of Resources & Alumni Affairs at IIT Roorkee successfully celebrated the reunions and welcomed the esteemed alumni and their families at three special occasions in November 2022, namely, the Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet of the 1997 Batch (Including 1998 B.Arch.), which was held on Nov 18-20, 2022; the Golden Jubilee Reunion celebration of the 1972 Batch (Including 1973 B.Arch.), which was held on Nov 23-25, 2022; and the Diamond Jubilee Alumni Meet, held from November 27–29, 2022. Shri Pradeep Kumar Kapse has pledged a donation of Rs 1.15 crore
 
During the event of Golden Jubilee Reunion celebration of the 1972 batch (including 1973 B.Arch.) scheduled between Nov 23-25, 2022, Shri Pradeep Kumar Kapse (1972- B.E.- Mechanical Engineering) has pledged to donate Rs 1 crore for renovation of the existing auditorium of the Mechanical department. He also pledged to donate Rs. 2.50 lakhs each to establish two awards for girl students and one MCM scholarship of Rs 10 lakhs.

IIT Roorkee organized the 17th symposium on Earthquake Engineering
 
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has conducted the 17th symposium on earthquake engineering from November 14–17, 2022. The event's inauguration was held at the Multi Activity Centre (MAC) auditorium at IIT Roorkee.
Speaking on the occasion, Uttarakhand's Chief Secretary, Shri SS Sandhu, said: "Events such as the Symposium on Earthquake Engineering help disseminate knowledge and spread awareness of the hazards of earthquakes and shed light on important issues such as earthquake resilience, safeguarding of buildings and businesses, and associated accomplishments and challenges." He congratulated IIT Roorkee on organising this event and desired that the institution will continue to work towards spreading information and awareness on this important subject.


IIT Roorkee Researchers discover three antiviral molecules for treating the COVID-19/SARS-COV2 Virus
 
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) have identified anti-viral molecules that can be used effectively to treat COVID-19 infections. The researchers identified three such antiviral molecules through drug repurposing, computational, and antiviral experimental studies.


Researchers from IIT Roorkee collaborated with InPTA to capture the Black Hole Symphony
 
The InPTA is an Indo-Japanese collaboration of about forty radio-astronomers working together with the International Pulsar Timing Array (IPTA) towards the detection of low-frequency gravitational waves.


IIT Roorkee: 45th Symposium of the Optical Society of India
 
IIT Roorkee inaugurated the 45th Symposium of the Optical Society of India (Conference on Optics, Photonics, and Quantum Optics, COPaQ 2022) from November 10 to 13, 2022. The conference brought experts from multiple domains together to advance research and development in the areas of optics, photonics, and quantum optics. An inaugural ceremony took place on November 10, 2022, at Convocation Hall of IIT Roorkee.


IIT Roorkee organized 9th International Groundwater Conference
 
The Department of Hydrology, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, organized the 9th International Groundwater Conference (2022) (IGWC-2022). The mega event was hosted by IIT Roorkee from November 2 to November 4, 2022, at the MAC Auditorium, IIT Roorkee. The IGWC-2022 focused on the theme of "effective management of (sub) surface water resources in arid and semi-arid regions." The conference witnessed the participation of more than 300 delegates from 12 countries. The inauguration of the international conference was chaired by Prof. Seyed Majid Hassan Zadeh, Hydrogeology Department, Utrecht University, and Prof. K. K.Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, graced the event as the Chief Guest.


The new program, "HR Analytics," will now be taught at IIT-Roorkee
 
IIT Roorkee is now offering a programme on HR Analytics: Unlocking Human Capital jointly with an online digital skills training platform, Simplilearn. It will include real-world applications of analytics across HR and multiple other domains and sectors; practical exposure through hands-on projects and a capstone; and industry-relevant case-based learning. The course is offered through the Continuing Education Center at IIT Roorkee (CEC IITR).


IIT Roorkee signs an MoU with Jammu University
 
The Department of Computer Science and IT, Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with iHUB Divyasampark, Indian Institute of Technology–Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), for fostering research and innovation towards product or technology development.


IIT Roorkee organizes 2nd National Conference on Contemporary Facets in Organic Synthesis (CFOS-2022)
 
Department of Chemistry at IIT Roorkee has organized 2nd National Conference in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) on "Contemporary Facets in Organic Synthesis (CFOS-2022)" from December 1–4, 2022.
This conference will be of interest to the synthetic organic community, involving early-career scientists, faculty from universities and research institutions, PG and Ph.D. students, and people from industry.
