Republic Day Celebration:
 
IIT Roorkee celebrated 75th Republic Day with a grand event showcasing unity and cultural diversity. The day began with a gathering of students, faculty and staff, with the Director's arrival marked by the resonant Kulgeet. The Flag Unfurling ceremony, accompanied by the National Anthem. Cultural performances from ABN Senior Secondary School and IIT Roorkee's Cultural Society added vibrancy to the celebration, highlighting the institute's rich talent pool. IIT Roorkee celebrated outstanding achievements by its officers, employees, and sports teams with awards and commendations. Noteworthy mentions include winners of the 28th Inter IIT Staff Sports Meet-2023 and recognition for the Best Cleaned Bhawan and Mess. The ceremony also highlighted the winners of a quiz competition held on Constitution Day.Read More

"Workshop on Women's Health: Understanding Social Factors in Lifestyle-Related Diseases":
 
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) hosted an informative workshop titled "Understanding Social Factors Influencing Lifestyle-Related Chronic and Non-Communicable Diseases among Adult Women in India." This engaging event occurred on January 10, 2024. International Conference on Future of Water Resources (ICFWR-2024):
 
The International Conference on Future of Water Resources (ICFWR- 2024) took place from January 18 to 20, 2024, organized by the Indian Water Resources Society (IWRS) in collaboration with the Department of Water Resources Development and Management at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of IWRS, the conference focused on critical water challenges, with key themes including water availability, supply and demand management, urbanization's impact on water demand, and climate change effects. ICFWR-2024 featured approx. 30 distinguished speakers who shared insights into water resources management, climate change, water pollution, and policy. IIT Roorkee's water-centric departments and centres embody the institute's steadfast dedication to developing innovative solutions and promoting sustainable practices in the field of water resources.Read More

Technology Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development Society (TIEDS) has been established to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. To accomplish its goal, TIEDS runs and manages a Business Incubator called Technology Innovation & Development of Entrepreneurship Support (TIDES) Business Incubator hosted at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Deepak Mathur (Electronics and Communication Engineering 1983 :
 
Congratulations to Deepak Mathur on his new role as IEEE Vice President overseeing IEEE Member and Geographic Activities. Deepak Mathur, an Alumnus of IIT Roorkee in India, has served IEEE in various capacities over the last two decades. From his role as Director of IEEE's Asia Pacific region in 2021-2022 to his involvement with the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society and past chairmanship of the IEEE India Council, Deepak has consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing the field of engineering. His contributions have been recognized through prestigious awards such as the IEEE Asia Pacific Region Outstanding Volunteer Award, IEEE MGA Achievement Award, and the IEEE India Council Lifetime Achievement Award. Anil Kumar Lohati (M.Tech. Structural 1986):
 
Anil Kumar Lohati has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). Former chairman and chief executive officer of the Railway Board, Lahoti graduated with a gold medal from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Gwalior. He also holds a Master of Engineering in Structures from the University of Roorkee (IIT, Roorkee). Lahoti's professional journey led him to become an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers, belonging to the 1984 batch. Pramod Sharma (BE Civil 1988) :
 
Pramod Sharma, an esteemed officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) 1989 batch, has taken charge as the Director (Works) at the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). Shri Sharma, a graduate in Civil Engineering from IIT Roorkee in 1988, brings academic excellence and a Chancellor Gold Medal to his career. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited and the Mumbai- Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project anticipate benefiting from Pramod Sharma’s leadership in his new role. Reunion 2013 Batch:
 
The Class of 2013 convened for their decennial reunion from January 5 to 7, 2024 to commemorate a decade since their graduation. The gathering brought together 120 individuals, encompassing Alumni and their spouses. The atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, and music, fostering a sense of camaraderie as shared experiences were revisited, solidifying lasting bonds among the attendees.

IITRAAN Souvenir launch Event:
 
IITRAAN held its engagement event on January 27, 2024, in Kathmandu. The association also conducted its Annual General Meeting during the event, which was chaired by IITRAAN President Er. Umesh Bahadur Malla,Er. Mohan Shakya, Er. Alek Poudel, General Secretary Er. Basu Dev Pokhrel presented the activities of IITRAAN for the Fiscal Year 2022-23. Some highlights of the past year's activities included the preparation of the IITRAAN Souvenir, updating the database, and launching the Outreach Program. To commemorate 175 years of the establishment of IIT Roorkee and 25 years of the establishment of IITRAAN, the launch of the Souvenir was the main event of the day. Following the Souvenir launch, students and teachers from the Swami Vivekanand Cultural Center of the Embassy of India entertained the event participants with charismatic performances in music and dance. This cultural program was presented through the kind courtesy of the Embassy of India to IITRAAN. The event concluded with a socializing dinner among the members and participants.Read More

As a keynote speaker of the panel discussion on Future of IITs, Director, IIT Roorkee underscored several crucial focal points like Recruitment and retention of quality faculty, Future-focused research areas like sustainable development to align with national agendas, Encouraging entrepreneurship skills among students to support initiatives like "Make in India". He also focused on Curriculum revisions to align with industry needs. He highlighted the significance of Alumni, noting their widespread presence worldwide. He underscored the importance for IITs to lead in revising the academic curriculum to align with international standards, given the global competition. He was also interviewed by the media to discuss his perspectives on the future of IITs.

Get- together in Seattle, Washington:
 
The emerald city of Seattle warmly welcomed a distinguished delegation from IIT Roorkee, marking the inaugural gathering of Alumni in the city. The event was convened by IITR Alum, Mr. Chetan Sharma (BE- Electrical-1991). Hosted at the University of Washington, the event saw the resilient camaraderie of alums spanning from 1987 to 2018, despite challenging weather conditions. Attendees gathered to hear presentations from Professors U.P. Singh and R.D. Garg, shedding light on the progress at IIT Roorkee and offering a journey through its history. The gathering evolved into a dynamic forum for idea exchange and connections as professors discussed transformative developments. Alumni engaged in a spirited brainstorming session, exploring potential collaborations between their alma mater and the IITR community in Seattle. The meeting served as a platform for the alumni to reflect on their shared journey, celebrate their collective achievements, and envision the role they could play in shaping the future of their alma mater. The resonance of nostalgia mingled with the spirit of progress, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism.

IIT Roorkee Delegates (Director Prof. K. K. Pant, Dy. Director Prof. U. P. Singh, Dean of Resources & Alumni Affairs Prof. R. D. Garg and Dean of International Relations Prof. Vimal Srivastav) convened with an esteemed Alumna Ms. Kusum Lata (BE, Civil - 1966) at Los Angeles. Their discussions delved into innovative strategies for the advancement of IIT Roorkee. They also talked about the possibilities for startups and Industry-Academia collaborations.

Meet-up at San Francisco Bay Area:
 
IIT Roorkee Delegates (Director Prof. K. K. Pant, Dy. Director Prof. U. P. Singh, Dean of Resources & Alumni Affairs Prof. R. D. Garg, Dean of International Relation Prof. Vimal Srivastav) addressed the gathering of IIT R Alumni in Bay Area California, coordinated and facilitated by Shri Vipin Goswami, President of IIT Roorkee Alumni Association of North America and Shri Manoj Goel, CEO, India Community Center (ICC). They also had a brief but enlightening conversation with Alumni Ms. Vinita Gupta and Dr. Amit Singhal (former SVP, Google) discussing ways to strengthen support for their Alma Mater.
